The facility in Beijing


Crazy bake works within and with the Beijing Chaoyang District Mental Health Service Center, a facility currently housing and caring for 210 patients. The patients age ranges from 20 to 80 years old and the majority is diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression. Other patients are diagnosed with dementia or are developmentally challenged.
The hospital consists of three wards, two for men and one for women. All patents have access to a communal outdoor space, which had seating, and sun covers installed funded by the project.
The hospital is a private institution financed with some subsidies from the government but mainly by the monthly fees paid by the family of each patient currently RMB 1500 per month. This covers nursing, housing, food and medicationbut leaves no room for extras.
There is no psychotherapy or occupational therapy.


Mrs Yan Yun is the head of the hospital. Since the death of her husband in 2004 she is solely responsible for the administration and running of the center.

She lives on premise and is very open-minded and has a positive attitude. She has been instrumental in the success of our project.
